Competitive Analysis Brief 45mm Color Mixing Optics

There are several critical factors which drives the net result performance of an optic:  design, material, and the science and art of the injection process.

Not all steaks are created equal, nor are all cooks.

Upon launching the 45mm series color mixing collimator family almost two years ago, Gaggione has recently seen intense competition and price pressure from new and established suppliers.  We have in fact witnessed the outright copying of design and some claims upon our leading market share in this optic category.

We have always challenged every prospect and customer, whether for custom or our LEDnLIGHT off-the-shelf optics, to benchmark our products against the competition.  So we procured some other suppliers optics that claim to compete against our LLC19 and LLC49 series TIR optics, and we put them through the same photometric lab testing and measurement we do with our own optics to produce our datasheets.

The conclusion is VERY clear:  you get what you pay for!   The LOR (light output ratio) and “on-axis intensity” with the LEDnLIGHT optics is decidedly better.  The LLC19N and LLC49N are still the most powerful collimators.

Curves show that you will need from two to three times more LEDs with copies to face one original Gaggione optical system coupled with the same LED. Copies generate additional cost because you need to use more LED that means more cooling issues and so on.
